Enhancing the musical relationship
Since an early age, music was hugely important to me. Without knowing it or being able to articulate it, the effect from childhood was profound and continues to deepen over time.
Consuming music through childhood and adolescence (at a time when physical media was the only tangible method) could sometimes be difficult. This desire to hear and explore more music helped forge a much stronger relationship and led to an adult life of becoming a musician, learning and understanding how music is recorded, produced and finally how it was reproduced.
1997 saw my start in the Hi-Fi industry. The limitless options of building a system to suit the needs of the listener and their environment was a constant journey of discovery and understanding which quickly led to this realisation. Selling someone a shiny new upgrade was easy. Augmenting their system so it sent shivers up their spine was the real challenge.
Understanding and optimisation should always be the first stage of the journey. Analysis and selection is then key to achieving any successful improvement. To making your foot tap and your hairs stand on end. It doesn’t necessarily need to be the ‘new’ version of what you already have. ‘Vintage’ equipment can also deliver the thrills when partnered correctly. That’s what it’s all about for us - making the right decision based on careful consideration. Exploring and learning should be part of the enjoyment.
Charles Eames suggested that you, ‘take your pleasure seriously’. I completely agree.
